To ensure food safety and security, the standard value for the permitted dose of radioactive cesium in foods was amended from the current 5 mSv/year to 1 mSv/year in Notice No. 1227 Article 1* of the Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare dated December 27, 2011. Following this, SCAS began accepting contracts for measuring radioactivity levels in drinking water, milk, baby foods and general foodstuff that complied with the new standard (reports were issued as an SCAS self-inspection report).
